Yearly since 1972, Albuquerque has been home to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, which has become the world's largest ballooning event. Over 1000 balloons fill the cool, crisp October skies as all of Albuquerque watches the spectacular mass ascensions. Some of the special events include a "Special Shapes Rodeo," featurings hundreds of uniquely shaped ballons rising into the autumn skies. The Night Magic Glow provides a stunning sight, as the thousands of hughe, hot air balloons light up, and there's also a "Special Shape Glowdeo," to allow the special shape balloons their own chance to shine in a very literal way!The America's Challenge Gas Balloon Race is another very special event, and is among the most prestigious long-distance ballooning events in the world. Gas balloon, using hydrogen or helium for lift, can stay aloft for 60 hours or more.The balloon that flies furthest wins, and some flights reach Canada and the East Coast!
